“The best way to learn new leadership and decision-making skills is often through mastering a high-intensity sport.”

Learning on the edge. Learning from your core.

I love adventure and have had my share of exciting moments as a rafting guide, pilot, paraglider, high-performance driver, sea kayaker, biker, and international traveler.

I’ve learned so much both when things go well and when things don’t go so well. In the beginning, just getting things to click and run smoothly accelerated my learning. Over time, when I truly started mastering certain sports, the learning went deeper. I had to relearn how to breathe, how to think, how to clear my mind, and how to move from my center.

I developed a new relationship with fear, and I learned how to focus on myself in ways that I never expected.  The outcome is also a surprise--I became a better human, I eat better, I sleep better, I take care of my body, and train in new ways. The difference between being good and being great is when I am able to bring my whole self and I stop thinking and start just living.

And these lessons translate to leadership in so many ways. I created Jupiter leadership to work with people who want to master their personal lives as well as who they are as leaders. When we do things that are fun, together and with other leaders, the learning is immense.

For leaders who are constantly improving and growing, I believe that the best way to achieve mastery and be at our best is to know ourselves through the hobbies, passions, and the activities we already love.

Whether on a beach, a mountain top, or a race track, Jupiter teaches leaders to focus attention on true excellence and how to be fully aligned in how we lead. Whatever we choose to do in work and play, it’s how we do those things that can bring us the most growth.
